## Salt-Water VS Fresh Water

You have undoubtedly noticed that ice placed in a glass of water starts out floating. As the ice starts to melt it starts to sink to the bottom of the container.

This sinking of the ice is caused because the amount the ice weighs increases as it melts and the density of the cube changes.

If you think it through you will see that water in its solid form does not lose weight, it loses volume. Ice is not lighter than water, the two items are in different volumes so comparing them equally is not possible.
